The All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed the week down at 6,280.31 points against its previous weeks closing level of 6,315.19 points reflecting a week on week depreciation of 0.55% whereas the secondary S&P SL index also contracted by 0.57% to close the week at 3,459.43 points. The Bourse continued to observe off-shore investor interest which has reflected a turnaround into positive territory since last week in net foreign inflows. The week recorded total foreign purchases of LKR 1,746.9Mn and total foreign sales of LKR 643 Mn which resulted in a net foreign inflow of LKR 1,103.9Mn. With this the YTD net foreign inflow has accumulated to LKR 2,095 Mn for the week ending 23rdMay 2014.  The total market capitalization lost by LKR 14,588 Mn over the week to close the market at LKR 2.63Tn. Furthermore the market capitalization reflected YTD gain of 6.93% by the end of the week.

A total of 117.58Mn shares were changed hands to record a total weekly turnover of LKR 3.36Bn.The off market deals took place on the stocks ofCOMB, JKH, NDB, HNB, UML, DISTandPDLfor the total value of LKR 772.56 Mn,which is a contribution of 23% to the weekly turnovers.
The list of price gainers were led by  KURUWITA TEXTILE (+37.80%),  PDL (+19.73%),  KELSEY (+14.56%),  SINHAPUTHRA FIN [P] (+12.86%) and  SERENDIB LAND (+11.09%) while the list of price losers were led by CEYLON LEATHER [W] (-50.00%), PCH HOLDINGS (-20.00%), CITRUS LEISURE [W] (-18.18%), S M B LEASING (-15.38%) and CIFL (-14.29%).The week’s ASPI movement was heavily influenced by the stocks of DIAL, VONE and PDL. The market PER and PBV scaledto 16.77x and 2.06x respectively by end of the week.

The Colombo Bourse was gloomy over the shortened trading week compared to its week before last. It gained 18.29 points on Monday before it losing ground back again by 18.20 points on Tuesday, to close the market at flat for Vesakholidays. However market witnessed some strategic deals which enabled it to gain by 30.23 points once again on Friday, effectively making the Bench mark All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed at 6,315.19 points higher 30.32 points against its previous weeks closing and the secondary S&P SL 20 index gained by 21.91 points to close the week at 3,479.17 points. The Bourse observed a net foreign inflow of LKR 1,206 Mn during the week which turned around the YTD net foreign inflow to positive LKR 991.4 Mn by the end of week from its negative value ofLKR 214.78 Mnas of previous week.It’s noted that the YTD net foreign inflow as of last week had been weakened to negative LKR 214.78 Mn.The total market capitalization gained by LKR 13,045Mnover the week to close the market at LKR 2.644 Tn.
A total of 115.98Mn shares were changed hands to record a total weekly turnover of LKR 3.23Bn.The off market deals took place on the stocks ofNEST, TILE, JKH, COMB, CINS, LLUB andCTC for the total value of LKR 1.4Bn,which is a contribution of 43.5% to the weekly turnovers.
The list of price gainers were led by PARAGON(+24.84%), SIERRA CABL (+22.22%), CITY HOUSING(+14.29%), LAKE HOUSE PRIN. (+13.52%) and GUARDIAN CAPITAL (+12.22%) while the list of price losers were led by BIMPUTH FINANCE (-34.65%), PC HOUSE(-25.00%), LANKA CENTURY [W] (-25.00%), S M B LEASING [X] (-20.00%) and CEYLON LEATHER [W] (-12.50%).The week’s ASPI movement was heavily influenced by the stocks of BUKI, AHPL and SLTL. The market PER and PBV climbed to 16.86x and 2.07x respectively by end of the week.

The external sector performance during the month of February 2014 has been further strengthened to contract the trade deficit by 20.7% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis as theExport earnings increased 5.4% YoY to USD 841 Mnand the Imports expenditure declined 6.2% YoY to USD1, 345 Mn as per the information published by CBSL.In addition to this the expectation on the outcome of this month’s (May) monitory policy announcement, uphold the positive momentum in Colombo Stock Exchange to halt the week on green territory for the second consecutive week ended on 09th May 2014.The Bench mark All Share Price Index (ASPI)closed at 6,284.87points higher 36.43 points against its previous weeks closing and the secondary S&P SL 20 index gained by 21.45 points to close the week at 3,457.26 points. The massive foreign inflow in to the market via the stock Expo Lanka Holdings PLC brought down the YTD net foreign outflow from LKR 7.1 Bn to LKR 214.8 Mn over the week. The week sawgiant foreign purchases of LKR 7.99 Bn outpacing the little total foreign sales of LKR1.1Mn.The total market capitalization gained by LKR 15,268 Mnover the week to close the market at LKR 2.63 Tn.
A total of 828.7 Mn shares were changed hands to record an excellent total weekly turnover of LKR 11.63Bn which is almost tripledas of its previous week’s figure. The off market deals took place on the stocks ofEXPO, HEMAS, HNB, JKH, SHL, LIOC, SEYB, RCL, AHUN, COMB, DIST andTKYO for the total value of LKR 7.88 Bn,which is a huge contribution of 67.8% to the weekly turnovers.
The list of price gainers were led by  MORISONS (+33.82%),  MIRAMAR [W] (+28.91%),  ACME (+25.53%),  S M B LEASING [X] (+25.00%) and  INDO MALAY (+17.50%) while the list of price losers were led by CEYLON LEATHER [W] (-20.00%), TANGERINE (-10.93%), EQUITY TWO PLC(-10.34%), ASIA ASSET (-10.00%) and MULTI FINANCE(-9.52%).The week’s ASPI movement was heavily influenced by the stocks of BUKI, AHPL and INDO. The market PER and PBV climbed to 16.78x and 2.06x respectively by end of the week.
